not the Jackie Chan film, no.
Thought it might be an idea to write a small bit about ourselves on here, a bit like an introduction but also maybe useful for seeing who has what skills and therefor good to collaborate with on stuff?

I am Scott Rudnicki-Bayne, qualified as Registered Mental Nurse, a job i did for too many years. Latterly got involved in setting up a health monitoring clinic, trained in venepuncture and ECG and became an assessor for others who wanted to be part of the team. This sparked my interest in education, and just before I left nursing I qualified as a Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, all of which appeared to make me suitable for the role of Simulation Technician, which I successfully applied for in January 2012. Outside in the real world, I've always enjoyed finding out how stuff works (think they call that Physics at school) and solving puzzles. I did a martial art for several years, won a couple of medals and awards, nothing big, but I loved that sport, opportunity to perform but also share with and encourage others. I tried handball a few years back, fantastic sport, but was something I really needed to take up at primary school, think we would have world class players if only we could get some coaching in there. Love the outdoors, despite the weather trying to defeat me, and I'm more an adventurer/city explorer than a beach bum when it comes to holidays, Trans-Siberian railroad, the Galapagos islands and the antarctic are on my bucket list. Can play the drums, as in a kit not a marching band. I go to ice-hockey most weekends, Fife Flyers, and I produce the stats for the match night programme. Was organised enough to see 3 of the original 6 NHL teams this year. Digressed a little but hey-ho, who's next?

OK, so since there are new members on board, I'll add a bit about myself too Working as a technician in HE for 18 years - the last 6 of which have been mainly in our inter professional simulation centre here at GCU. Completed my post grad in supporting student learning in 2014, becoming an associate fellow of the higher education academy. I love a bit of moulage, and tinkering and adapting manikins to add functionality - current obsession is using Arduino. I really enjoy reading about how people learn and the psychology behind it, and then how we can use simulation to facilitate this. Outside GCU, but still on a work level, I am technical rep, and also elected secretary of the Scottish Clinical Skills Network, and I am the co-tech champion for ASPiH for Scotland alongside Scott. Outside work - I love gin - drinking mainly but I collect 1st batches of small runs from as many distilleries as I can. I do irish dancing - still compete and am currently studying for my teacher and adjudicator certification. I play guitar and ukulele for fun - neither to a very high standard, but enjoy it. I'm a huge rugby union fan - support Scotland and the mighty Glasgow Warriors. Try to get to as many games as I can. Looking forward to hearing from the newbies who have signed up, and some of the old timers too who have gone a bit quiet

Hi, I'm Kate and working as a SimTech for Frimley Health at Wexham Park Hospital. We have created a Facebook group to allow informal sharing of information, but it will hopefully also work for mutual support/troubleshooting and networking too! Here is the group, please share with other techs as you see fit. www.facebook.com/groups/1736010206721157/

Hi, my name is Dave. Been a sim tech for almost 3 years now with no experience in medical or simulation before. Always been interested in tech and constantly worked with, fixed or created it throughout my employment and past time before working for the NHS. Previously worked for NHS Lothian and am currently employed at NHS Forth Valley at SCSChf with Scott. I have a degree in graphic design, which I am currently trying to make of use at my workplace to help boost marketing. Acting in a medical role in simulation is a daunting task that I am trying to overcome by grasping certain medical basics that are looked for in each scenario. Personally, love to sketch, play drums, keep fit and play a sport called roller derby ... please don't ask me what that is or ask to describe it

Hi all, my name is Craig and I have been a sim tech at Edinburgh Napier Uni for just over a year. I am a scientist by background, but found myself working in simulation and haven't looked back. On top of normal sim tech duties I also organise the Simulated Patient programme at Napier.
I have a one year old daughter, so spend most of my free time playing and having tea parties. I also love playing and watching football.

Hi there! I'm Caroline Pugh, Audio Visual and Simulation Technician at the Belfast Trust, in Northern Ireland. I'm totally new to sim tech, and this is a completely new role, so I appreciate any connections and recommendations.
My background includes making audio visual performance installations, teaching music performance at the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queens University, assistive technology for student support in unis, administration for the health service in Scotland and NI, working for synthesizer startup company Patchblocks, and lots of freelance music/theatre/teaching/tech stuff.
In my spare time I love DIY, swimming in the sea, cycling, weightlifting, cooking and community arts. I'm a vocalist in a band that tours occasionally doing free jazz improvisations.
Really glad to meet youse and looking forward to the next SimTechDay!
