is anyone submitting an abstract?
because, seriously guys, i believe there's something that we have all done or been part of that we could submit at least as a poster or 10 min oral presentation. we only have til Wednesday midday, if there is something new or innovative you've done, or are trialing, why not ? nothing to lose right?
I think I'm lucky in that there's support here at SCSC, that helped get me started, and i'm keen to do it again (one abstract done and another started) but i also want to encourage other techs to proudly show the great ideas they have, whether they consider them big or small. So if you guys have something that you maybe want to talk/shout about, I'm certainly no expert, but i would happily help you with the abstract submission, if you wanted.
anyway, presentations or not, I'll hopefully see most of you guys there

so as a bit of a last ditch idea and not knowing who is selecting from the abstract submissions, i have emailed Kevin in Dundee to ask if he knows and if there are 5-6 abstracts that are suitable for a tech room 10 min presentation that we'd run it, i suggested for a 1/2 day (i guess thats 2 hours) so the other hour i was thinking of doing maybe a competition. had a thought today about maybe a fastest clothes, sex and pupil change on SimMan Essential? will wait and see what reply i get from Kevin, though at this stage it's more hope than expectation, and I'll post outcome here. if anyone has other ideas or suggestions please post reply

ok so that was quick, it isn't too late, here's the piece that matters...
"I am happy to explore a tech room with the proviso that it must have a clear mandate to ensure it is a success."
so can we make it a success? what must we do to make it so? we need to act fast though guys
i'm happy to host, but definitely need a at least a co-host as wife is due baby in middle of April, so just in-case, might be better if someone else took that responsibility altogether.
thoughts and ideas?
any thoughts and ideas on presentable work/developments?

We're working on maybe producing a poster on the tech role behind a mass simulation - live cameras, manikin, handheld clickers for voting etc. One of our academics is submitting an abstract on the pedagogical aspect. We've missed the deadline though, unless the tech room has a separate one?
What about some kind of "first time presenter" prize to encourage folk new to it?

thats something i've just emailed Kevin about, i don't know whats been submitted so can't know if we'd have any presentations that were suitable, so have asked if we would now be able to ask for abstracts for tech specific stuff. if it was opened for a month say, would you have something? an innovation? solution to a problem thats either finished or not quite?
really like the concept of "first time presenter" especially as a way of encouraging people to get involved for the first time. it's not until you see what others have done that you realise how much stuff you probably have that could potentially be a 10 min oral presentation or poster presentation.

ender, seriously try to get along to the ASPiH/SCSN symposium, it really is a worthwhile experience both for networking and to see what other people submit/present
from Harrogate there was: using google hangouts to watch debriefs and then debrief the debrief a guy who made a grossly oedematous leg from plaster bandages to help district nurses practice bandaging and dressing skills same guy who created a an abdomin from palster bandages to provide a structure through which to practice laprascopic(ish) surgery a woman who used a carry-out dish to demonstrate how much IV fluid wasn't being administered (due to staff not knowing how to use a 3way tap) guy who was using prok belly for surgeons to practice a procedure (maybe stitching, i forget what!!) or was it he put something in gelatine moulds which were ultrasoundable and fairly realistic to perform surgery on if covered with pork belly, maybe that was it
i guess that venous access would be possible as a poster or 10 min oral, the pulsatile abdo mass i've made and the difficult intubation device for HPS have been submitted, just simple concepts that change and/or improve what we do, actually this forum could become one if we use it effectively to communicate and share and improve all our skills, as long as we can demonstrate it makes a difference.

I see from the preliminary programme that there's a Tech Room slot for 90mins on day 2, but i have no idea what that is, if it's ours, someone elses, who's running it etc, but at least there's a slot
